Brief History
The folk dance group was founded in September of 1990 with the guidance of several members of the Weiss Blau Bayern. The group was known as the "Hansa Folk Dance Group" until mid 1993 when its name was changed to the "VOLKSTANZGRUPPE ALMRAUSCH".
The Tracht was a burgundy Dirndl for the ladies and the men wore 3/4 length black lederhosen. Then in 1998 the VTG Almrausch adopted a new Tracht in Miesbacher tradition, and in March of that year proudly joined and became the first Folk Dance Group to become a member in the Gauverband Nordamerika. The first executive was formed in January of 1991 with Ernst Fischer as President, Ed Stelter as Vice-President, Nelly Lopez as Treasurer, Sigrid Feltoe was our Secretary and the Lead Dancer was Joanne Andersen.
The Almrausch perform for Oktoberfeste, Charity Events, Weddings and participate in Gauverband activities: the 20th Gaufest in Buffalo in 2005, the 21st Gaufest in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 2007, the 22nd Gaufest in Toledo, Ohio in 2009, the 23rd Gaufest in Orlando Florida in 2011 and the 24th Gaufest in Sandusky Ohio in 2013. We also dance at Trachtenfeste in Kitchener-Waterloo.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Weiss Blau Bayern for founding our Group and for their ongoing support. We would also like to thank past and present members for their dedication and hard work throughout the years.
Our practices are held every week at the Hansa Haus and we are very proud to continue the tradition of our German Heritage.
We are always in need of new members, so please, feel free to come and visit us on Fridays at 7:30 pm and perhaps you would like to join our group.
