The Beginnings of our Choir
In April 1976, at the Hansa Club's 18th Birthday Party, discussions between Ernst Hamanns and Erhard Liedtke began about the formation of a mixed choir. Of course, more discussions ensued, and some time passed, but before long the first "Stingstunde" began.
The choir started with seven fledgling members, gathering under the club house roof the area where the "Hansa Stube" now stands. They began with the singing of German folksongs such as "Horch was kommt von draussen rein" and others. By the time the 1977 Hansa Christmas Party rolled around, the Choir was ready for its first public performance.
Through the years many changes have taken place, with new members joining and others leaving. The first conductor and co-founder was Erhard Liedtke, who after 15 years at the helm, passed the torch to the next generation choirmaster, Dieter Wuetherich in 1992. Due to work related circumstances Dieter was followed in 1997 by Wolf Schepp who together with his wife, Inge (who accompanied most of our songs on the piano) directed our choir. In 2008, Dieter (now retired from the daily workforce) again took over the reins as conductor.
